Lando Norris set the pace during the first free practice session of the Hungarian Grand Prix, narrowly beating championship leader Oscar Piastri by 0.019s. Norris impressed with a time of 1m16.052s on soft tires after showing promising speed on medium compounds earlier in the session. Charles Leclerc briefly eclipsed Norris’ time on the soft tires, but the McLaren driver reclaimed the top spot with an even faster lap. Piastri showed strong form but ultimately finished 0.142s behind Norris. The session also saw notable performances by Isack Hadjar, Lewis Hamilton, and Max Verstappen in the top 10, while Fernando Alonso missed out due to injury. Notably, Sauber’s Paul Aron faced technical issues, leading to a virtual safety car period.
